Many people wonder whether those with kidney stones can safely eat tofu. The good news is that individuals with kidney stones generally can include tofu in their diet. Oxalates are compounds that can contribute to the formation of certain types of kidney stones.

Processed tofu products like tofu skin or dried tofu also contain minimal oxalates, making them relatively safe options for those managing kidney stones. One reason tofu is considered a better choice is that during its production, soybeans are soaked and diluted with water, which significantly reduces their purine content. Purines are substances that can increase uric acid levels, another contributor to stone formation.

Moreover, tofu is rich in calcium, which plays a beneficial role in reducing kidney stone risk.
