Gallbladder inflammation, or cholecystitis, is closely linked to dietary habits. Overeating, heavy alcohol consumption, or eating high-fat meals can all trigger an episode. In most cases, gallbladder issues are connected to the presence of gallstones, which can form due to poor diet, obesity, or irregular eating patterns such as skipping breakfast. These stones can block the bile ducts, leading to inflammation and pain.

There are two main types of cholecystitis: acute and chronic. Acute gallbladder inflammation is usually caused by a sudden infection. Symptoms often include fever, severe pain in the upper right abdomen, and in some cases, jaundice — marked by yellowing of the skin and dark urine. Chronic cholecystitis, on the other hand, typically develops over time and is often related to long-standing gallstones. This type causes recurring pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, which usually subsides on its own after 4–6 hours.

To manage gallbladder health, maintaining a balanced diet is crucial. Eating regular meals, especially breakfast, helps keep the digestive system functioning properly. It's also important to avoid fatty, greasy, or overly spicy foods that can stress the gallbladder. Overeating should be avoided, as it can cause sudden pressure in the bile ducts and lead to pain or inflammation.

Limiting alcohol intake and staying hydrated are also beneficial. Alcohol can irritate the gallbladder and liver, making symptoms worse. Drinking plenty of water supports digestion and helps prevent gallstone formation.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of gallbladder disease. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a fiber-rich diet with lean proteins and fresh vegetables can support overall gallbladder function and prevent flare-ups.
