Cholecystitis patients are generally advised to avoid eating sausage, although it is not strictly prohibited. When the gallbladder is inflamed, its normal function may be compromised. High-fat foods can stimulate the release of cholecystokinin, a hormone that causes the gallbladder to contract. This contraction forces bile from the gallbladder into the intestines for digestion. However, during an acute flare-up, the gallbladder may already be inflamed or swollen, and the bile ducts may be narrowed due to irritation.

Excessive contraction can lead to blockages in bile flow, causing pain and worsening the condition. In cases where gallstones are present, the contraction may cause small stones to become lodged in the neck of the gallbladder, the bile duct, or the cystic duct—a condition known as stone impaction. This can trigger acute biliary colic or even more serious complications.

Therefore, it is strongly recommended that individuals with active cholecystitis avoid high-fat foods like sausage to prevent further irritation and potential flare-ups. Maintaining a balanced, low-fat diet can help manage symptoms and support overall gallbladder health.
