Gastric Cancer Patients: What Fruits Are Safe to Eat

During treatment, pre or post-surgery, and the recovery phase, it's important for gastric cancer patients to choose mild and easily digestible fruits. Soft fruits such as bananas and apples are highly recommended due to their gentle impact on the digestive system. Once a patient has made effective and stable progress in recovery, a wider variety of fruits may be introduced, although some types should still be avoided.

Fruits that are overly acidic, cold, or difficult to digest must be consumed with caution. For example, chilled watermelon during summer should be avoided as it may hinder gastrointestinal recovery or disrupt dietary balance. If a patient wishes to eat watermelon, it's better to choose watermelon stored at room temperature.

Another fruit to be cautious about is persimmon. Persimmons can form bezoars when mixed with stomach acid, especially if consumed on an empty stomach. This can pose a serious risk to gastrointestinal function and potentially lead to blockages. For this reason, persimmons should be strictly avoided by gastric cancer patients during recovery.

In general, selecting the right fruits and preparing them properly can significantly support the healing process. Always consult with a healthcare provider to tailor dietary choices to individual recovery needs.
