Individuals with reflux esophagitis can drink soup, but it is best to choose light and mild varieties. Rich, oily, or heavily seasoned soups—such as spicy chili-based broths or sour soups—should be avoided as they may trigger acid reflux symptoms. Additionally, consuming soup that is too hot should be avoided, as it can irritate or damage the delicate lining of the esophagus and potentially worsen inflammation.

It's important for patients to eat smaller, more frequent meals and avoid overeating. Lying down immediately after eating should also be avoided, as this can increase the likelihood of acid reflux episodes. Maintaining an upright position for at least two to three hours after a meal helps reduce pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter and minimizes the risk of stomach contents flowing back into the esophagus.

Certain foods and beverages should be strictly limited or eliminated from the diet. These include chocolate, strong tea, coffee, alcohol, and carbonated drinks, all of which are known to relax the lower esophageal sphincter and contribute to reflux. Smoking should also be avoided, as it weakens the esophageal barrier and impairs healing.

Commonly prescribed medications include proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to reduce stomach acid production and prokinetic agents to improve gastrointestinal motility.
