Digestive Enzyme Tablets for Chronic Gastritis Symptoms

Digestive enzyme tablets are primarily used to aid digestion and provide relief from symptoms such as bloating, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. However, they do not treat the underlying cause of chronic gastritis itself. These tablets work by supplementing the body's natural enzymes, which can help ease discomfort caused by poor digestion often associated with chronic gastric inflammation.

For effective treatment of chronic gastritis, it's important to address the root cause. Patients are typically prescribed medications that reduce stomach acid and protect the gastric lining. Commonly used drugs include proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, pantoprazole, and rebaglitizine, as well as antacids such as aluminum-magnesium suspension and sucralfate. If the condition is caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, a four-drug combination therapy is recommended—consisting of one proton pump inhibitor, two antibiotics, and one bismuth compound—to eradicate the bacteria and promote healing of the stomach lining.

When using digestive enzyme tablets, patients should avoid alcohol and refrain from consuming spicy, cold, or greasy foods to prevent further irritation. Special populations such as children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and elderly individuals should use this medication under medical supervision. It's also important to note that these tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed, as the acidic environment of the stomach can degrade the enzymes. Additionally, they should not be taken with aluminum-based medications, as these may interfere with their effectiveness. Always consult a healthcare provider before combining this medication with other drugs to avoid potential interactions.
