Treatment for viral pneumonia primarily focuses on symptom management and supportive care. Antiviral medications may be prescribed in specific cases—especially for influenza or COVID-19—when administered early. Most patients recover within one to three weeks with rest, hydration, and over-the-counter remedies. However, outcomes depend heavily on the patient's overall health and age.

Unfortunately, not all cases respond well to treatment. In high-risk groups, recovery can be prolonged, and complications such as secondary bacterial infections or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) may arise. Early diagnosis and prompt medical intervention remain key to improving prognosis and reducing mortality rates associated with viral pneumonia.
