If a lesion appears suspicious, a CT-guided needle biopsy can be performed to extract tissue from the outer lung fields with minimal invasiveness.

Additionally, positron emission tomography (PET) scans may be used alongside CT to evaluate metabolic activity in potential cancerous tissues, improving diagnostic confidence before any invasive procedure.
