In critical cases, avian flu can also lead to secondary systemic issues such as septic shock and acute kidney failure—complications rarely seen with ordinary colds or seasonal flu.

Because initial symptoms overlap so much with common respiratory illnesses, definitive diagnosis requires laboratory testing. Healthcare providers use molecular techniques like RT-PCR and viral culture to detect the presence of avian influenza strains in respiratory samples. Early identification is essential for initiating antiviral therapy, isolating infected individuals, and preventing potential outbreaks.
