With current medical technology, doctors are able to identify the underlying cause in approximately 70% to 80% of cerebral thrombosis cases. Once a cause is determined, implementing effective secondary prevention strategies becomes crucial to reduce the risk of recurrence. These strategies often include lifestyle modifications, medication management, and regular medical follow-ups.

However, in about 10% to 20% of cases, no clear cause can be identified. These instances are classified as cryptogenic cerebral thrombosis. Ongoing research aims to uncover hidden risk factors and improve diagnostic accuracy for these unexplained cases.
