Blood samples are taken and incubated to encourage bacterial growth. Once bacteria are detected, further testing is performed to determine antibiotic sensitivity. Common pathogens associated with endocarditis include gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus. Identifying the exact bacterial strain allows for targeted antibiotic therapy, which significantly improves patient outcomes.

Comprehensive Patient Evaluation

Effective management of endocarditis also requires a thorough assessment of the patient's overall health. Individuals with weakened immune systems or underlying medical conditions may need additional supportive care before starting antibiotic treatment. Nutritional status, organ function, and the presence of any coexisting infections should all be evaluated to optimize treatment strategies.

Antibiotic therapy is the cornerstone of endocarditis treatment. Due to the severity of the infection and the potential for complications, treatment typically involves prolonged courses of intravenous antibiotics at adequate doses. The duration of therapy depends on the type of organism involved and the patient's clinical response. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to remove infected tissue or repair damaged heart valves.
