Cost of Rheumatic Heart Disease Surgery
Rheumatic heart disease often requires surgical intervention, and the overall cost can vary depending on several factors including the type of surgery, materials used, heart function, presence of comorbidities, and the location and reputation of the medical facility. On average, a single valve replacement using a domestic prosthetic valve costs around 70,000 RMB, while opting for an imported valve increases the cost to approximately 80,000 RMB.
Types of Valve Replacement and Associated Costs
Single Valve Replacement: This is the most common type of surgery for patients with isolated valve damage. Using a domestically manufactured valve keeps the cost at about 70,000 RMB, whereas an imported mechanical or biological valve raises the cost to around 80,000 RMB.
Double Valve Replacement: In more advanced cases where two heart valves are affected, a double valve replacement is necessary. With domestic valves, the cost is approximately 100,000 RMB, and with imported valves, it rises to about 120,000 RMB.
Additional Procedures and Their Impact on Cost
If the patient also suffers from atrial fibrillation, it's often treated during the same surgical procedure through radiofrequency ablation. This additional procedure can bring the total cost to around 140,000 RMB.
Other concomitant procedures such as left atrial thrombectomy (removal of blood clots), left atrial reduction, or tricuspid valve repair may also be necessary depending on the patient's condition. These procedures add complexity to the surgery and can significantly increase the total cost.
Complications and Extended Care
If complications arise during or after surgery—such as prolonged cardiopulmonary bypass time or postoperative organ dysfunction—the overall expenses may increase further due to extended hospital stays, intensive care requirements, and additional medications or treatments.
